Catch a doubleheader of action from the hardcourt tonight on TSN2. First, Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls play host to Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic. Then, Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks are in Phoenix to face Steve Nash and the Suns. All the action gets under way at 8pm et/5pm pt. Two of the Eastern Conferences top players will go at it for the second time this season when Derrick Rose and the NBA-leading Chicago Bulls host Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic tonight at the United Center. Rose and the Bulls got the best of the Magic in the first meeting, a 97-83 victory in central Florida on Jan. 6 behind 21 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds from the NBAs reigning MVP. Howard paced the Magic with 28 points and 15 rebounds. Chicago has won four in a row against Orlando and three of the past five meetings between the teams in the Windy City. The Bulls have a great chance at making it five consecutive wins in this series after they posted their eighth win in a row overall last night in a 106-104 victory at Milwaukee. Rose was the hero with a long buzzer-beating shot for the win and finished with 30 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds for Chicago, which owns the best record in the league at 33-8 and a comfortable lead atop the Central Division. "What can you say?" said Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. "Another big shot." Joakim Noah added 20 points and 10 rebounds and Carlos Boozer scored 15 for the Bulls, who have also won eight in a row against Milwaukee. The Bulls will begin a six-game homestand Thursday and are 15-2 as the host this season. They have won four straight at the United Center and are 51-7 as the host dating back to last season. Chicago improved to 15-0 on the season when scoring 100- plus points. Rose is averaging 26.3 ppg in six games since the All-Star break and 17.6 points in 12 career meetings with the Magic. Guard Richard Hamilton did not play against the Bucks because of a shoulder injury suffered in a recent win over Indiana and is day-to-day. Hamilton has been plagued by injuries all year for a Bulls team that hasnt won nine in a row since ending the 2010-11 regular season with that many victories. Utah, New York, Miami, Portland and Philadelphia are also scheduled to pay a visit to Chicago. Orlando will get the first crack at the Bulls on their homestand and is coming off a 100-84 setback Tuesday at Charlotte in the second installment of a three-game road trip. Howard had 15 points and pulled down 17 rebounds, while Ryan Anderson and J.J. Redick both scored 14 points. The Magic shot just 38.8 percent for the game and committed 18 turnovers, leading to 25 Charlotte points. They also led by as many as 20 points in the first half and were outscored, 57-36, over the last 24 minutes. "We gave them confidence and they just played with total confidence in the second half and thats where they got the win," said Howard, who recorded his 32nd double-double of the season. "You cant do that with any team. We cannot allow teams to get confidence against us." Orlando had won two straight and three of four games before falling to 12-8 away from home. Mavericks at Suns (TSN2 at 10:30pm et/7:30pm pt) The Dallas Mavericks would still make the playoffs if the regular season ended today, but they havent been playing like defending champions lately. The same can not be said for the Phoenix Suns postseason aspirations, however. Dallas hopes to improve its recent play when it opens a three-game road trip tonight against the Suns at US Airways Center. It has won just twice in the past seven games and recorded a 95-85 win versus the New York Knicks the last time out on Tuesday behind Dirk Nowitzkis 28 points. He is averaging 31.6 points in his last three games for the Mavs, who are four games behind San Antonio for the Southwest lead and sixth in the conference. Rodrigue Beaubois netted 18 points off the bench and Jason Kidd added 15 and six assists in the win. "We couldnt have won without him," Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle said about Beaubois. "Wed like to win it more comfortably, but that just doesnt seem to be in the cards right now." Kidd was fined $25,000 Wednesday for public criticism of officiating. Kidd was penalized for comments made to the media after Dallas 95-91 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday. The Mavericks will also visit Sacramento and Golden State, and are 8-10 away from Big D this season. They have dropped four straight on the road. Mavs center Brendan Haywood did not play Tuesday because of an ankle injury and is questionable for tonight. Phoenix is three games off the eighth and final postseason spot in the Western Conference and looks to get back into the win column Thursday. The Suns went 5-1 on a recent homestand, but dropped a 115-104 decision at Oklahoma City last night, as Thunder stars Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden combined for 91 points. Marcin Gortat had a career-high 28 points and 11 rebounds, Jared Dudley notched 17 points and 11 boards and former Mav Steve Nash added 12 points and 13 assists for the Suns. "We played extremely hard and I thought we fought like crazy, but they got two All-Star guys (Durant and Westbrook) that stepped up and theyve got a guy coming off the bench that is most likely going to be the Sixth Man of the Year (Serge Ibaka)," said Suns head coach Alvin Gentry. Gentrys team blew a 16-point second-half lead and was outscored 31-16 in the fourth quarter. Channing Frye finished with 13 points and eight rebounds for Phoenix, which will open a four-game homestand tonight versus the Mavs, Grizzlies, Timberwolves and Jazz. The Suns have won three straight in the desert and are 10-9 as the host this season. Phoenix has lost the first three meetings with Dallas in 2011-12 and hopes to avoid being swept in the season series for a second straight year. The Mavericks have won eight in a row, 11 of 12 and 14 of the last 17 meetings between the clubs. These two teams have split the last 18 games in the desert. Dallas swept the season series for the first time since 1986-87 in 2010-11. Toronto coach Scott Milanovich was the first in the CFL to avail himself of the chance to challenge the officials failure to rule pass interference on a play and subject it to video review. His challenge stood and it helped set up Steve Slatons second touchdown of the game to put Toronto ahead 24-16. T.Y. Hilton Colts Jersey .Kemba Walker added 16 points for the Hornets (3-2). Charlotte trailed 68-63 before pulling away with a 23-1 run.John Wall scored 14 points for the Wizards (4-2) on 3-for-12 shooting. He had three assists and four turnovers.LIBREVILLE, Gabon -- Ivory Coast will play Zambia in the final of the African Cup of Nations after Gervinhos goal on the stroke of halftime ensured the title favourite edged out Mali 1-0 on Wednesday. The Arsenal forward capitalized on a defensive error at Stade de lAmitie to race half the length of the pitch and shoot past goalkeeper Soumaila Diakite, sending the Ivorians to their second final in six years and giving them another chance at a first African title in two decades. Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure both hit the post as Ivory Coast dominated a stubborn Mali for most of the semifinal but couldnt give itself some breathing space. The Ivorians still reached the deciding game with five straight wins and without conceding a single goal at the tournament. They are now in touching distance of the Cup of Nations triumph that would befit their star-studded squad, which has lost in the final, semifinals, and quarterfinals at the past three tournaments. "We suffered a bit of nerves," Ivory Coast coach Francois Zahoui said. "There were signs of stress and I showed signs of stress, but it worked out. "We came here with a lot of expectation and pressure. With the failures weve had in the past, we understand we havent won it yet." Zambia advanced to Sundays decider after surprising Ghana 1-0 in the first semifinal at Estadio de Bata. The southern African team is now probably every neutrals choice to win the tournament on its return to Libreville 19 years after a tragic plane crash in the Gabonese capital robbed the country of one of its best-ever teams. "There will be a lot of emotions on both sides," Zahoui said. "Zambia is a young team and we know they are a team of emotion. We respect them a lot." In Libreville, Gervinho led the celebrations at fulltime as Ivory Coasts relieved players ran across to dance and applaud in front of their orange-clad fans, who had been outnumbered by Malis supporters in a stadium that was maybe half full. The West African countrys only previous Cup of Nations title came in 1992, when it beat Ghana in a marathon penalty shootout. "We are going to stay concentrated because we want to have a party on Sunday," captain Drogba said. "Well stay concentrated and above all respect the Zambian team." At Stade de lAmitie, which will stage the final, Gervinho finallly made Ivory Coasts first-half dominance count in the 45th minute when he flicked the ball past defender Ousmane Berthe on the halfway line, sprinted down the left wing unchallenged, cut in on goal and sent a right-footed shot into the far corner.dddddddddddd Malis defensive slip, as Berthe rushed up on the Arsenal forward and was beaten and with Cedric Kante giving him too much space, caused a furious reaction from coach Alain Giresse. Malis coach slapped his hand against the team dugout in frustration as Ivorian players congratulated Gervinho going down the tunnel at halftime. In the second half, the Malians finally ran out of gas after showing great resilience to lift themselves from a group-stage defeat to Ghana and then come from behind against co-host Gabon to win a penalty shootout in the quarters. "We can be proud of the team," Giresse said. "We almost succeeded; we werent far from succeeding." Drogba gave Mali an early warning when he glanced a downward header off the back of his head that came off the post in the sixth minute. Toure slammed a shot off the other post soon after from close range after surging from midfield and receiving a pass from Salomon Kalou on the right wing. Gervinho sent a header over the crossbar in the 18th, as Africas top-ranked team went close with nearly every attack. Behind to Gervinhos opportunist strike, and with Ivory Coast in control, Mali rallied for Mustapha Yatabare to shoot just over in the 73rd with goalkeeper Boubacar Barry stretching. But it was the best of few Mali openings in the second 45 as Ivory Coast tightened its grip and closed out the game. Drogba broke clear again down the right wing in the 77th and held off Kante to hit an angled shot that Diakite half-blocked, and Mali scrambled the ball away from in front of goal. The Malians defended bravely but couldnt threaten at the other end. ------ Lineups: Ivory Coast: Boubacar Barry, Kolo Toure, Didier Zokora, Jean-Jacques Gosso, Salomon Kalou (Kader Keita, 79), Cheick Tiote, Gervinho, Didier Drogba, Siaka Tiene, Yaya Toure (Didier Ya Konan, 90), Souleman Bamba.
